ROOF GARDEN

This restaurant is quite hidden. It is located at Kumho Asiana Plaza, beside the InterContinental Asiana Saigon. The mall just opened not so long ago and only a few people visit the place. We don't have a clue that the restaurant exists had we not been curious at what was on the top floor, and we saw this tarpaulin:

It must be lovely to dine in here for dinner, just too hot during the day. They have a cool indoor sitting area with a few tables and chairs.

Lots of foreigners frequents this joint. I guess because it is quite different with its cowboy theme. It is along Saigon's red light district and no wonder I saw a number of 'working girls' with their 'client', who were mostly Caucasians. However, the food was appetizing and they have a band that entertains their patrons every night.

THAI EXPRESS

This one is comfortably a building away from our hotel. The Husband was drained from work while the Little Boy and I just came from a tiring tour of the city that day, and we don't feel like walking so we decided to try the nearest one. It did not disappoint us as the food was just awesome! It deserves many visits.

RISTORANTE VENEZIA

Another Italian resto. It is on the ground floor of Hotel Continental Saigon. This is a quaint little restaurant that serves such soft homemade bread and the typical Italian food. You'll enjoy their alfresco dining, as you'll have the full view of the main streets.

One will never go hungry in Saigon, for cafe and restaurants are all over the place!

HIGHLANDS COFFEE

This is like Vietnam's Starbucks. Coffee beans being one of the country's top product, they do have good tasting coffee. Highlands got a variety of drinks just like giant coffeehouse chain. They offer cakes, pastries and what have you, noddles!

POMODORO

It is a small Italian restaurant along one of District 1's busy roads.

GARTENSTADT

This is a German Restaurant located at Dong Khoi Area. It is almost always packed. They serve yummy sausage with a friendly service.

Hard Rock Cafe

I want to think of happy thoughts so I am doing this post . . .

Before the Husband went away 10 weeks ago, we spent the day at Surfer's Paradise; after staying there for 4 days, just a week before. I love it there because most of the flagship stores are at the Gold Coast and not in the Brisbane CBD. We shopped ourselves silly! B just wanted the 3 of us to have a grand treat since we will be apart for a long time. And shopping is one neat way to bond! LOL!

We had lunch at Hard Rock Cafe. We go to the Gold Coast all the time but we just don't get to dine at Hard Rock, even though its location will stare at you right at Surfer's Paradise's main street along Cavill Avenue. As B and I were deciding where to eat, The Little One asked why we never go to the place where the giant guitar is. So we thought, 'Why not try Hard Rock?'

The place is nice and tame, compared to Manila and Dubai's Hard Rock. It is more family-oriented; probably because it is in the middle of Surfer's Paradise which is a main tourist area.

Dinner At Fely J's

This post is still from our 2nd trip to the Philippines last year.

Whenever we go home, my family always make it a point to dine out and spend time together the night before we fly back. Sort of a 'see us off' dinner.

We went to Fely J's in Greenbelt 5 and had these:

My family must be sick of having Filipino dishes whenever we're in town. I don't have it back here and they love me, so they let me. Hahaha! Nothing beats the customary comfort food, especially when you're in your home country.

Our New Year's Eve Holiday

Following the late Christmas entry . . .


When the Husband was away for 4 days after Christmas, we were talking about what to do for New Year's Eve. He told me to look for accommodation along Surfer's Paradise so we can see the fireworks again. I sent him links to what I've found and he said that he'll just check it when he gets home.

He flew back morning of the 30th. By that time, prices of most accommodations went overboard. I could not believe the cost so I told B that we'll just stay put and welcome 2010 here at home.

Minutes after, the Husband told me to pack our stuff because we're going to the Gold Coast! I printed our reservations and found out that we'll be staying at Sofitel. The new year's eve rate alone cost almost $700! You can do the math on how much was spent on hotel accommodation for just a few days. There were different rate for each day from December 30, 31 and January 01, 02. B said it was too late for me to demur because it's already been paid. Am I being stingy? Hahaha! So Sofitel it is.

6 hours before 2009 bid farewell, it rained. We were having dinner then and got a bit wet because we were in an alfresco dining. Our plan to walk the beach after dinner and wait for the 2100H fireworks were aborted because it was still pouring by the time we were done eating. We walked back to the hotel and watched the fireworks from there.

We were confined in our hotel room because of the rain. The Little One just watched TV as the Husband and I gave in to the bed's temptation . . . we slept, on separate bed! Sofitel's beds and pillows were divine! I had never slept so soundly like that in such a long time!

I got up just a few minutes before midnight and checked outside. The rain stopped so I woke up B and asked him if he still want to see the new year's eve fireworks in the beach. He got lazy to get out of the bed and said that we'll just watch it from our balcony.

The Q1 started the countdown 10 seconds before the clock strikes 12, then the big fireworks! Too bad because the big building a few meters from our hotel was blocking the view of where the fun was happening. All we could see were bits of the fireworks and just its smoke! The Little One was sooo disappointed! It was too late for us to go down and walk to the beach. So we just listened and watched the live telecast on TV at Sydney.

It was the first day of another decade and I won't let that fireworks ruin a beautiful start of the year, so we just stayed on the balcony and watched the people enjoy the street party. B just looked on as Kaiden and I danced with the music and made fun of ourselves!
